The impact Jordan Love’s extension has on the Packers’ salary cap

The impact Jordan Love’s extension has on the Packers’ salary cap

According to a report, Love will count “just over $20 million” on the Packers’ salary cap in 2024.

According to Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love’s cap hit will be “just over $20 million.” Before his new extension that made him the highest-paid player in the history of football, Love carried a $12.7 million cap hit, meaning only around $8 million extra of the $220 million deal that Love signed up for is going to hit the Packers’ cap this year.

Per cap expert Ken Ingalls, the lowest Love’s cap hit could have...

Jordan Love signs 4-year extension with Packers, ending holdout

The next time you see Love on the practice field, he’ll have his helmet on.

After missing four training camp practices with a holdout, Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love and the team have reached a four-year extension, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. The deal will pay him $220 million in new money, which brings his average per year to $55 million. That figure ties him with Cincinnati’s Joe Burrow and Jacksonville’s Trevor Lawrence as the highest-paid quarterbacks, or players in general, in NFL history.

As we’ve learned over the years, though, the true judgment of a contract is...

Chicago Bears release first unofficial depth chart

Chicago Bears release first unofficial depth chart

The first “unofficial” depth chart of the preseason is out.

The first padded practice of the season is in the books and now the Chicago Bears have released their initial depth chart of the preseason.

The chart doesn’t mean much and should be seen as “unofficial.” It contains few surprises for a team with very few starting position battles.

Caleb Williams is the only rookie listed as a starter, unless you count punter Tory Taylor, too but he has no other competition.

Rome Odunze is listed as the back up to Keenan Allen.

Center, where the only true starting battle...

Report: Jordan Love extension hold up is over contract structure

The Athletic’s Dianna Russini says it’s structure, not average salary, that is the hangup in Green Bay’s negotiation with their quarterback.

Following the Miami Dolphins’ four-year, $212.4 million extension with quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, The Athletic’s Dianna Russini reported that at one point it “appeared” that the Green Bay Packers’ extension with quarterback Jordan Love was going to get done before Tagovailoa’s but that the hiccup is now over contract structure. This should come as no surprise to Acme Packing Company readers, as we’ve stated since the start of this holdout that the biggest hurdle that the Packers are going to...

Dolphins reach extension with QB Tua Tagovailoa

Tagovailoa will receive $53 million per year from Miami and $167 million in guarantees.

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Miami Dolphins and quarterback Tua Tagovailoa have agreed on a four-year, $212.4 million contract that will give him $167.1 million in guarantees. Who knows if that means that the $167 million is fully guaranteed, though, or if it’s a practical guarantee, a guarantee that must be earned by Tua remaining on the roster.

If it is fully guaranteed, that means Tagovailoa received more at signing than any player since the Cleveland Browns handed Deshaun Watson $230 million back in...

Former Lions CB Jerry Jacobs finally lands on new NFL team

Former Lions CB Jerry Jacobs has finally landed with a new team.

Former Detroit Lions cornerback Jerry Jacobs has finally found a new NFL home. As first reported by ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, Jacobs is signing with the Los Angeles Rams.

Jacobs’ contract with the Lions expired this offseason after three seasons and 40 games played in Detroit. Over that time, Jacobs tallied 29 starts, 23 passes defended, and four interceptions. However, he was benched toward the end of last year, and with the Lions’ huge overhaul of the cornerback this room—including the additions of Carlton Davis, Amik Robertson, Terrion Arnold,...

Bears Camp Recap: Watch Caleb cap the day with a 2-minute drill for a TD

The first padded practice is over!

Fans were back at Halas Hall today for the first Chicago Bears training camp practice with pads on, so you know what that means—plenty of bootlegged videos on the Twitter timeline featuring the beloved.

The defense appears to be getting the better of the offense still, which, again, is quite normal at camps. The Bears are in year three of the defensive scheme, while only a few months into Shane Waldron’s new offense with a rookie QB1 and plenty of new players on that side of the ball.

But that’s not to say Caleb...

Packers practice news and notes, 7/26: Still no Jordan Love update

Three players were activated off of the non-football injury and physically unable to perform lists on Friday.

Friday was the fourth and final practice of the Green Bay Packers’ training camp before they’re allowed to throw on their pads for practice. With everyone still in shirts and shorts, it’s hard to blow out of proportion how significant players’ performances are in these practices. However, it’s still worth noting who is getting work with first-team units and what the team’s injury situation is.

With all that in mind, let’s dive into what happened on the practice field today.

Friday Cheese Curds: Camp injuries underscore reason for Love’s hold-in

Friday Cheese Curds: Camp injuries underscore reason for Love’s hold-in

A division rival saw a key player get knocked out for the season with an injury this week, which helps explain why Jordan Love is not practicing without a new deal.

Jordan Love believes that he and the Green Bay Packers will work out a new contract soon. The Packers believe it. The fans believe it. So with all interested parties confident that the details will be finalized soon, the level of concern around him sitting out the first few practices of training camp is impressively low at this point.

But recent developments around the NFL have illustrated why Love...

Report: Detroit Lions work out another UFL kicker

The Detroit Lions have reportedly worked out another UFL kicker in the aftermath of Michael Badgley’s season-ending injury.

According to reports from MLFootball and Mike Payton of A To Z Sports, the Detroit Lions have worked out UFL kicker Andre Szmyt. The news comes in the aftermath of Detroit losing starting kicker Michael Badgley to a torn hamstring this week that will cause him to miss the entirety of the 2024 season.

Szymyt went undrafted in 2023, and spent a couple months with the Chicago Bears before being waived a couple weeks into training camp. He spent this spring playing...

Packers Regression to the Mean: Goal-to-Go Situations

Packers Regression to the Mean: Goal-to-Go Situations

The Packers were insanely good in goal-to-go situations in 2023. Will they come crashing back to earth?

One of the most impressive statistics put up by the 2023 Green Bay Packers concerns their goal-to-go offense, as you can see here in this post from Tyler Brickner.

Scoring a touchdown on 95% of your goal-to-go opportunities is frankly amazing! The median scored around 71% or 72% of the time, and the second-best teams topped out at 83%. And I’m not even sure the percentage really does the Packers justice, because the underlying numbers on this statistic had the Packers scoring touchdowns...
