Alexander was unable to finish the game against Chicago on Sunday
The only player on the Green Bay Packers’ 53-man roster to not suit up for Wednesday’s practice was cornerback Jaire Alexander, who dropped out of action versus the Chicago Bears on Sunday after just 10 snaps played defensively. According to head coach Matt LaFleur after the game, the plan was always to play Alexander — who was dealing with a knee injury — on a pitch count, but Alexander was unable to finish the game as it was apparent that he wasn’t at full health.
If there’s any silver lining here, it’s that Carrington Valentine, who was Alxander’s replacement in the game, is playing well this season as he ranks second among qualifying cornerbacks in yards allowed per coverage snap. If Alexander does suit up against the San Francisco 49ers this week, it will be interesting to see whether it’s Valentine or Keisean Nixon lining up opposite of him at outside cornerback.
The limited participants in practice today were DT Kenny Clark, RB Josh Jacobs, LG Elgton Jenkins, C Josh Myers, LT Rasheed Walker, DT Colby Wooden, LB Edgerrin Cooper and S Evan Williams. Out of that group of players, the only one who was unable to finish the game against Chicago was Wooden, who missed the game entirely. At this point, the only significant injury Packers fans should be worried about impacting Sunday’s matchup is Alexander’s knee.
While the 49ers are still actively practicing at the time of his post, meaning they haven’t released their first injury report of the week, tight end George Kittle, who missed last week’s game against the Seattle Seahawks, said plainly, “I will be playing on Sunday,” today. Kittle, along with quarterback Brock Purdy and defensive end Nick Bosa, were significant injury question marks that San Francisco had coming into the week.
