For literal decades, the New England Patriots had one of the best kicker situations in pro football. However, with the days of Adam Vinatieri, Stephen Gostkowski and, yes, Nick Folk all in the rear-view mirror, the team needed a reset.
It found it in the form of a 2025 sixth-round draft pick.

49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk is continuing to make waves with videos on social media. In his latest (via David Lombardi of the San Francisco Standard), he claims he does not have an agent.
“I terminated my SRA [standard representation agreement] through the NFLPA last year in November,” Aiyuk said.
But the NFLPA’s database still lists Ryan Williams of Athletes First as Aiyuk’s agent, according to Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio, indicating that Aiyuk did not complete the process of terminating his SRA.
Aiyuk’s post indicates that he has not been in touch with Williams, which is not surprising. His...

Over the years, Tom Brady has inspired countless namesakes across New England, from babies to family pets. But one Patriots-loving family in Bali took their fandom all the way to the end zone. When Brian and Grace Caffyn welcomed twin boys in April 2015, they named them Thomas and Brady after the legendary QB.
The twins were practically born into Patriots Nation. At just 3 years old, Thomas and Brady got the chance to meet their namesake during the team’s 2018 training camp, creating a wholesome moment that quickly won over fans. Now, years later, the heartwarming clip is making...
George Kittle isn’t done taking shots at the NFL as World Cup fever continues to grip the United States.
The San Francisco 49ers star tight end first fired a playful jab at the league earlier this month when the FIFA World Cup kicked off. With several matches being played in NFL stadiums, Kittle couldn’t help but admire the pristine natural grass at SoFi Stadium—a sharp contrast to the artificial turf the Los Angeles Rams and Chargers play on during the NFL season.
NFL insider Ari Meirov shared Kittle’s blunt message to the...
As we are in the final doldrums of the offseason, there are certain topics that make the rounds for fans of various football teams. We have those types of conversations around here all of the time and will until training camp kicks off. Again, the doldrums.
Recently the folks at Hogs Haven were discussing the Dallas Cowboys and in doing so posed a question to their audience: Which player would you steal from the Cowboys?
We all hate the Cowboys’ rivals, but we can acknowledge that they have legitimate players on their teams. If we could we certainly would steal...

The New York Giants are gearing up for training camp in July. Each team in the NFC East has restructured its roster in hopes of success in the upcoming 2026 season. This is the fourth post in our position-by-position look at the NFC East; we have reviewed the cornerbacks, safeties, and linebackers so far.
The team with the best positional group is assigned four points, and the “worst” receives one point. It is a complex formula, up there with E=MC², but we’ll attempt to deliver the information in a palatable manner, and I’m sure it will be well received by...

The Los Angeles Rams intended to draft Ty Simpson even before Jimmy Garoppolo decided to retire. LA was able to solve the quarterback position long-term and prepare for life after Matthew Stafford. They may still need a fix in the near term should Stafford miss time.
A viral report from organized team activities (OTA’s) suggests that neither Simpson nor Stetson Bennett are seizing their opportunity to win the backup job. I would go as far to say that Simpson shouldn’t even be in the running–at least early in the year–in order to avoid risking putting the rookie on the field...

Bucs RB Kenneth Gainwell said that he believes the team’s offense is a perfect fit for him as a smaller, shifty back that can exploit mismatches on the perimeter.
“That style of offense is built for guys that can get to the perimeter, fast guys and I think me and Bucky and Sean [Tucker] have that ability to get around the edges and see those cutback lanes and make it happen,” Gainwell said, via the team’s website.
Panthers WR Jalen Coker was rewarded with a new three-year extension two years after being an undrafted free agent...

Here at Cat Scratch Reader we have counted down the final 100 days leading up to the Carolina Panthers season opener by for at least the past ten years. We’ve always done this by highlighting the current player on the roster whose jersey number matches the day on the countdown. This year, we decided to change that up a bit by counting down our own list of the Top 100 Panthers of all time. This does not correspond to jersey number, does not need to be somebody who wore a jersey, and will in no way be controversial.

We’re almost into July, so we can probably predict far too early which players will win which NFL awards when the 2026 season ends. Or rather, who probably has a slim chance to.
Over at NFL.com, Bucky Brooks put together his long shots for major NFL awards of the year. These are things like now-Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kyler Murray winning the Most Valuable Player Award, and New England Patriots wide receiver A.J. Brown winning the Offensive Player of the Year Award.
Long shots. One of those long shots is San Francisco 49ers linebacker Fred Warner, Brooks’ long shot for Comeback...

The Pittsburgh Steelers made several offseason upgrades to both the roster and the coaching staff. Yet one familiar face returning for another season might end up holding the franchise back in 2026. At least, that’s how Yahoo Sports analyst Nate Tice sees things. Appearing on the NFL Daily podcast with NFL Network’s Gregg Rosenthal, Tice […]

A winning or losing season is decided by dozens, if not hundreds, of inflection points. If one play call, penalty, fumble, drop, missed tackle goes the other way, it potentially changes the entire outcome of a game. Similarly, a franchise’s direction also has plenty of moments, decisions, and signings that drastically alter the course of the reality we’re living in.
As a Detroit Lions fan, there are probably hundreds of moments you wish you could change. With so much failure in this team’s history, the past seven decades have been filled with bad decisions, poor plays, unlucky moments, and mismanagement....
