Broncos Film Review: Quinn Meinerz vs the Colts

Broncos Film Review: Quinn Meinerz vs the Colts

Of course the first film review of the regular season on a specific offensive lineman is about Quinn Meinerz. After how the game ended I needed a pallet cleanser and I figured Meinerz would be my best bet of physical dominance on film.

I was mostly right, but Meinerz was not perfect in this one. I think there’s some very fixable mistakes that we can take a look at and learn from though. Hopefully we can come out of this feeling a little better about Sunday by looking at one of the positives that came from that game.

Broncos at Chargers preview: Denver hopes for rebound in LA

Bo Nix and the Denver Broncos suffered their first brutal loss of the season.

Now comes the first real test for 2025. Will the Broncos put the 29-28 defeat to the Indianapolis Colts behind them? Or will Denver stack losses on the road?

The Broncos enter Sunday’s game against the host Los Angeles Chargers as a +2.5-point underdog at FanDuel Sportsbook. The total sits at over/under 45.5 points.

This goes without saying, but Denver will need to play complementary football and be strong in all three phases to get the big road divisional win (thanks, John Madden).

Denver Bronco snap counts and analysis from game 2

I’m going to drop the whole table in this week instead of splitting it up. If you would like to see the separated O, D and ST tables, I can go back to doing that next week. Just let me know in the comments.

Once again the entire OL and Bo Nix played every offensive snap.

The game-day inactives for the this game were:

  • QB Sam Ehlinger
  • RB Jaleel McLaughlin
  • TE Nate Adkins
  • OLB Que Robinson
  • LB Dre Greenlaw
  • T Frank Crum
  • DE Sai’vion Jones

Alex Palczewski got three snaps as the 6th...

The Broncos’ are missing production from key players rewarded this offseason

The Broncos’ are missing production from key players rewarded this offseason

The Denver Broncos put a lot of effort this offseason into improving their team. Extensions were handed out to Courtland Sutton, Nik Bonitto, and Zach Allen. Big-name free agents Evan Engram, Dre Greenlaw, and Talanoa Hufanga were signed.

We’ve definitely seen some impact from Bonitto, Allen, and Hufanga so far this season.

What concerns me is that Courtland Sutton and Evan Engram have been ineffective on offense, and Dre Greenlaw has yet to suit up for a game.

The Broncos need playmakers to show up and can’t afford to just pay good money to players that aren’t impactful.

Evan Engram...

Broncos linebacker woes continue

Broncos linebacker woes continue

Despite having a top pass and the Defensive Player of the Year in your secondary, the Broncos’ defense had a weakness that teams started to exploit late in the year. That weakness was their linebacker position. They were down Alex Singleton and relied on Cody Barton and career special teamer Justin Strnad to be their starters. It worked for a few weeks, but teams started attacking them late in the year and achieved considerable success.

Well, this offseason, they went out and signed veteran Dre Greenlaw to improve that unit. They were getting back Singleton and had Justin Strnad, Drew...

Evan Engram’s role has been more of a joke than ‘Joker’ so far

The Broncos’ first big move this offseason was signing former Jaguars tight end Evan Engram to be the much-talked-about ‘Joker’ in Sean Payton’s offense. However, after just two games, his role in the Broncos’ offense has been more of a bad joke than a ‘Joker’.

Many assumed Engram would be a big part of the Broncos’ offense this season, but through two games, he has been an afterthought. Through two games, Engram has only been on the field for 38% of the offensive snaps, only played 43% of the offensive snaps vs. the Colts, and has totaled 6 targets and...

Broncos at Colts: The No Bull Review

Broncos at Colts: The No Bull Review

Supposedly, this was one of the easier away games on the schedule for the Denver Broncos. They faced a team led by Daniel Jones at quarterback and were down two starting cornerbacks.

On paper, this should have been an easy win for the Denver Broncos. But any given Sunday in the NFL, any team can win, and a perfect storm of bad play, questionable referees, and a scrappy opponent that wanted the win more led to a loss for the Broncos.

There’s a lot to unpack in this game, so let’s dig in.

Leverage

Stats some leverage: Breaking down the Broncos’ loss to the Colts

The Denver Broncos lost in a way that has never happened before. The NFL first created the leverage rule in the 2009 season. Including Sunday’s games it has only been called 51 times. The rule is stated like this in the NFL rulebook

Placing a hand or hands on a teammate or opponent to gain additional height to: (1) block or attempt to block an opponent’s kick or apparent kick, or (2) attempt to jump through a gap to block an opponent’s kick or apparent kick.

Until yesterday this had never been called on a game-deciding FG. It had been...

Broncos must look inward, refocus, and move forward

After a thrilling one-point victory over the Tennessee Titans in Week 1, the Denver Broncos lost a heartbreaker to the Indianapolis Colts by the same margin on Sunday. Emblematic of how quickly things can change over the course of a week. That’s life in the National Football League.

Against the Titans, it was the defense that saved the day. A dominant effort on their behalf propelled the Broncos to victory. On the road in Indianapolis this past Sunday, the offense (despite some issues) was able to score 28 points. Alas, the defense imploded and allowed Daniel Jones and the Colts’...

Players admit they lost the game long before that #$%^@&! field goal

Good morning, Broncos Country!

Before getting into all the reasons Denver didn’t end up on the right side of a win on Sunday, let’s give another shout out to JasonAult16, my stand-in UFG, for his prediction that if the Broncos could “play clean, disciplined football,” they would win.

Turns out that is exactly what the Broncos needed to do and exactly what they didn’t do for one quarter of the game.

Sadly, it was the wrong quarter.

A few other UFG gems from JasonAult16 that proved spot-on, if not highly unfortunate:

Broncos vs. Chargers betting odds for Week 3

Broncos vs. Chargers betting odds for Week 3

The Denver Broncos are fresh off a pretty sloppy game on offense and a complete absence of defense between the 20s. Things don’t get any easier in Week 3 as they will be on the road to face their AFC West rival Los Angeles Chargers who are fresh off a dominating road win over the Las Vegas Raiders last night.

According to FanDuel, the Broncos are 2.5-point road underdogs against the Chargers in Week 3. The over/under stands at 45.5 for this matchup.

Monday Night Football Week 2: Open Thread

Monday Night Football Week 2: Open Thread

It is the dreaded Monday Night Football doubleheader in Week 2. I really dislike MNF doubleheaders, but the NFL loves the money.

And today’s doubleheader is especially important to the Denver Broncos. They likely need the Los Angeles Chargers to choke and the Las Vegas Raiders to win. A gassed up Raiders team is preferable, especially if they fade down the stretch as most would expect. The Chargers are considered by many as legitimate contenders, so a 2-0 start for them would not be ideal.

In the other game, I’ll take the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to beat the Houston Texans....
