Your open thread for Thursday Night
Happy Halloween everyone! Will the NFL serving us a trick or a treat when the New York Jets take on the Houston Texans on Thursday Night Football?
This was likely a matchup the schedule makers were excited about back in the spring. Of course, they probably didn’t foresee the Texans losing Stefon Diggs and Nico Collins to injury. Likewise, they probably predict the Jets stumbling to a 2-6 record despite (or due to) sacrificing their future to go all in on Aaron Rodgers.
And yet, the Jets are 2.5-point favorites per FanDuel sports book....
The New York Giants took the field on Thursday for their second of three practices ahead of a Week 9 game against the Washington Commanders at MetLife Stadium.
Beforehand, head coach Brian Daboll delivered a positive injury update, revealing that all but two players — punter Jamie Gillan and wide receiver Bryce Ford-Wheaton — would return to practice.
Daboll also stated that rookie running back Tyrone Tracy Jr. advanced in concussion protocol and would wear the red non-contact jersey.
“Trending in the right direction,” Daboll said.
In further good news, Daboll said there’s a strong chance veteran cornerback Adoree’ Jackson...
How different might these two teams look?
The New York Giants face the Washington Commanders on Sunday for the second time this season. The teams have gone in opposite directions as the 6-2 Commanders lead the division with the 2-6 Giants at the bottom.
This week’s ‘5 questions’ segment with ‘Hogs Haven’ is answered ‘ Eboracum.’
*Eboracum: Assuming good injury luck, the Giants...
Rides, fades, and sleepers to help you set your weekly lineup
Welcome to Week 9, and Happy Halloween! Fantasy football has been a little like a haunted house this season. Each time I get a Sleeper or ESPN alert, I’m scared to look. Even practices are frightening, and I can’t remember a season where so many players who came out of the prior week “healthy” popped up on injury reports late in the week. As we head into the second half of the NFL season, a lot of fantasy lineups look very different than they did in Week 1. This...
Just how much do the Giants miss him?
Former New York Giants turned Green Bay Packers safety Xavier McKinney has been named the NFC Player Of The Month for October.
McKinney earned Player Of The Month honors after a spectacular October that has seen him rack up 19 tackles (one for a loss), three passes defensed, two interceptions, and a fumble recovery.
The Giants originally drafted with the 36th overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. And while his time with the Giants was marked by injury (notably a fractured foot as a rookie and then a fractured hand in...
Leading rusher is one step closer to being cleared to play on Sunday
New York Giants running back Tyrone Tracy took a step on Thursday toward clearing the NFL’s concussion in time for Sunday’s game against the Washington Commanders. The rookie practiced in a non-contact jersey, which is more than he did on Wednesday after sustaining a concussion Monday night against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Head coach Brian Daboll said Tracy is “trending in the right direction” for Sunday.
Tracy, a fifth-round pick who did not start until Week 5 when veteran running back Devin Singletary was out with an injury,...
The New York Giants have begun the 2024 NFL season by losing six of their first eight games, which has become the norm in East Rutherford in recent years.
The Giants have started seven of their last eight seasons 2-6 (or worse) after eight games. The only exception was 2022 when they got off to a 6-1 start en route to a 9-8 season and a playoff berth.
Head coach Brian Daboll, since taking over the reins as head coach in 2022, is 17-24-1 in the regular season and 1-1 in the postseason.
There have been numerous conversations and articles...

Could Slayton fill in for Stefon Diggs with the Houston Texans?
A recent report from NFL insider Mike Garafolo says the New York Giants “would have to be blown away” to trade pending free agent wide receiver Darius Slayton before Tuesday’s NFL trade deadline.
Would the Houston Texans be willing to do just that, make an offer for Slayton that GM Joe Schoen simply can’t refuse?
The AFC South-leading Texans, 6-2, have designs on a deep playoff run in C.J. Stroud’s second season as the team’s quarterback. They made a major offseason trade to boost their offense, acquiring star wide...
New York Giants outside linebacker Azeez Ojulari began his NFL career back in 2021 as a highly-touted second-round draft pick out of Georgia.
Ojulari fell to the second round due to concerns about his surgically repaired knee. The Giants pounced and were rewarded by Ojulari who went on to set a franchise record for sacks by a rookie (8).
But since that season, Ojulari has largely been unavailable due to various injuries that do not include the knee that caused him to drop in the draft.
Ojulari started just 10 games over the next two seasons and headed into training...
“No one’s happy with where we are.”
Daniel Jones uncharacteristically showed some frustration on Monday night after the New York Giants botched a 2-point conversion in their loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Head coach Brian Daboll did not mind seeing the fire from his quarterback.
“I want him to be him. But I don’t mind emotion,” Daboll said.
Jones knows his vocal reaction is one not usually seen from him.
“I try to do a good job controlling myself and controlling my emotions,” he said. “That time, I didn’t do as good a job, but it’s football and we’re into...
Giants called ‘nice landing spot’ for Bryce Young
The New York Giants will almost certainly be in the market for a quarterback this offseason. With days to go before the 2024 NFL trade deadline, could the Giants make a pre-emptive move at the quarterback position?
ESPN’s Dan Graziano thinks that 2023 No. 1 overall pick Bryce Young, who has failed to impress with the Carolina Panthers, to the Giants makes sense. Graziano says:
Panthers quarterback Bryce Young to the Giants for a fourth-round pick. I don’t think Carolina’s going to do any better than a fourth-rounder for Young right...
