The 49ers quarterback has had some added luxuries this offseason that weren’t there in the past.

The San Francisco 49ers got their first full season as a starter from quarterback Brock Purdy in 2023, which he rewarded them with a 13-win season that involved him throwing for 4,280 yards, 31 touchdowns, and a 69.4 percent completion rate.

Purdy, 24, saw himself entrenched in the MVP conversation for much of the season, finishing in the top five alongside teammate Christian McCaffrey.

However, the 49ers weren’t able to accomplish their ultimate goal of a Super Bowl, falling short in the final game 25-22 to the Kansas City Chiefs in overtime to send them home packing without any hardware once again.

What was Purdy’s response to the unfortunate outcome?

“We got all the way to the end. We’re right there and weren’t able to finish it,” Purdy said earlier this week. “So for me, I had that taste in my mouth, and then get back into the gym, start slowly, working into it.

“And then here, in OTAs, getting with Kyle [Shanahan] and going over all the games that we played in, every play, and going over situational football and stuff, and taking that and actually going out on the field and running things and repping things, and throwing to the receivers.”

The process has been new for Purdy, as he hasn’t really had this portion of the offseason in the capacity that he currently is in.

During the 2022 offseason, which came right after he was drafted as a seventh-round pick, Purdy got minimal daily opportunities as the 49ers had both Trey Lance and Jimmy Garoppolo ahead of him on the depth chart.

Then, last offseason, Purdy missed the OTAs and mandatory minicamp period as he was healing back from a torn UCL injury, which had him out until training camp.

So, in a way, Purdy is going through the motions of his first full offseason this year, which he has found beneficial as he gets a headstart on the preparation for next season.

“Last year, I didn’t have that [offseason], so now that I’m able to attack those kinds of things, I feel like I’ve gotten better,” Purdy said.

Not only has Purdy been there this offseason, but many of the 49ers veterans have also been in the building, allowing the rapport to continue to grow across the board.

As the 49ers chase another Super Bowl this upcoming season, Purdy will be tasked with carrying a heavy load once again, and it seems he’s taken the right steps early in the process towards a successful year.
