Texans lose another one in New York

The Texans were an undermanned football team coming into New York and it showed. Yet, there wasn’t much else that was normal about this game. Your Houston Texans lost a 21-13 battle with the New York Jets, but the game maybe shouldn’t have been that close. This seemed like a very similar to the effort in Green Bay. The Texans even had a lead in the fourth quarter like they did during that game.

The game was eerily similar to last year’s game where the Texans held a 7-0 lead at the half. It was ugly and at many points stupid, but it looked like the Texans were the better team for a half. Malachi Corley was streaking in for an uncontested touchdown and like an idiot dropped the ball before crossing the goal line. He was clearly showboating and it cost his team seven points.

Joe Mixon was a machine. He ran for 106 yards and the team’s only touchdown. At numerous points in the game he was the Texans only offense. Yet, the passing game could never get going. C.J. Stroud was a disastrous 11 for 30 in a game that saw him sacked a season high eight times.

In another bizarre turn of events, the team’s starting left guard was injured, declared out, and the offense seemingly improved when he left. Kendrick Green replaced Kenyon Green and certainly had his own struggles, but wasn’t quite the turnstile that the other Green has been most of the year.

On defense, Denico Autry had his first two sacks of the season and the team seemed to play well in the first half, but they gave up three second half touchdowns. They had no answers for Garrett Wilson all night long and even allowed Devante Adams scorch them for a late touchdown to seal the game.

The story of this game and the first half of the season will be the struggles on the offensive line. Stroud has regressed largely because he doesn’t have consistent time to throw. Plus, they had only one healthy target on this game following Stefon Diggs’ season ending injury. It remains to be seen what the team will do before the deadline this next Tuesday. Clearly, they need to do something and probably more than just something. Tell us what you think needs to be done.
