CLEVELAND — The Pittsburgh Steelers teased their Justin Fields offensive package last week as he received three snaps. They must’ve like what they saw as he got even more playing time in the Steelers 24-19 loss to the Cleveland Browns on Thursday night.
Fields was given the opportunity to make an impact on several series, and he did for the most part as he helped lead a much-needed touchdown drive late in the fourth quarter.
His biggest play of the night was a 30-yard run down the sideline, but he’s still kicking himself that he got caught.
“I should’ve scored. I’m sick,” Fields said. “I just gotta make sure I’m warm on the sideline at all times. I felt stiff on that one.”
The game’s snowy weather conditions likely had an impact on Fields attempt at staying loose on the sideline while waiting for his next opportunity.

He’s not using that as an excuse, though.
“I mean, yeah. I think it does, but at the end of the day, that’s what my job is,” Fields said when asked if it hurts his rhythm to go on and off the field. “I can’t complain, and like I said, anytime I get an opportunity to go on the field to help my team, I’m happy to do it.”
Fields has proven to be a difference-maker with his legs, rushing for 274 yards and five touchdowns this season.
Many believe his snap count could continue to rise if the Steelers offense continues to struggle in short yardage or red zone situations. Fields is not so sure, however.
“I’m not sure. I usually have a set package each and every week, but I think the play calling is random, to be honest with you,” Fields said. “How I’m gonna be used in the future is a question.”
The Steelers must be smart in how they mix in Fields with quarterback Russell Wilson, who was solid once again against the Browns, completing 21-of-28 passes for 270 yards and a touchdown.
That will ultimately be up to head coach Mike Tomlin and offensive coordinator Arthur Smith. Whatever they decide, Fields will be ready for when his name is called next, just as he was on Thursday night.
“It felt good,” Fields said. “I was glad I was able to get the chance to help my team.”
