Now that Week 2 of preseason is concluded, it’s time to look around the division.

Week 2 of the 2024 preseason has drawn to a close, so now it is time to look at the State of the NFC South.

Carolina Panthers

Preseason record 0-2

After scoring only three points last week, the Panthers needed to see a better offensive performance. Against the New York Jets, the offense was able to improve, but in the end, the Jets came out on top 15-12. The Panthers were led by rookie running back Dillion Johnson, who ended the game with 83 rushing yards and a touchdown. On defense, rookie Demani Richardson had a standout performance, ending the game with an interception.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Preseason record 1-1

After winning in Week 1 of preseason, the Buccaneers entered Week 2 wanting to build on their prior performance, but this was not the case. The Jacksonville Jaguars defeated the Buccaneers 20-7. On offense, QB Kyle Trask had a very efficient game, and RB Sean Tucker averaged 8 yards per carry. The Buccaneers’ most impressive performance came on defense, with outside linebacker Jose Ramirez having a three-sack game.

Atlanta Falcons

Preseason record 0-2

Last week, the Falcons offense was lackluster, and the defense was not enough to stop the Miami Dolphins. In Week 2 of the preseason against the Baltimore Ravens, the offense was much improved, but the Falcons ended with fewer points than last week. Kicker Younghoe Koo was 2/5 on field goals, and if at least one more kick had been made, the Falcons could have won, but the score ended 13-12.

New Orleans Saints

Preseason record 1-1

The Saints came into Week 2 of preseason wanting to improve on offense and continue to dominate on defense. Derek Carr and the starting offense looked cohesive and showed more implementation of the new scheme. Also, Trevor Penning performed much better than last week. On defense, the starting unit continued to show needed growth from last season and new signing Chase Young dominated. Although the Saints’ backups on defense stood strong, the backups on offense struggled. Eventually, the Saints’ offensive woes were too much and led to the 49ers winning 16-10.
