The Seahawks rookies had an up-and-down day on an otherwise down performance against the Bills.
This was the Seattle Seahawks’ worst game of the year on both sides of the ball. Because of this, it also influenced the impact of the rookie class. With Nehemiah Pritchett out, the rookies’ total snaps dropped by almost half. From 209 against the Falcons, they went to 115 in the 31-10 loss to the Buffalo Bills.
Let’s take a look at how the rookies fared in Week 8, with all grades coming from PFF.
I believe, like the entire team, this was the rookie’s worst game. He was second on the team in passing grade (behind Coby Bryant, WTH?!) with 65.7; fifth in pass rush with 60.7 (his worst grade of the year) and only one rush; and finally, seventh in run defense with 58.8 and 3 stops.
Murphy managed to force a hold from the Bills’ OL, and made some good plays in the running game. Still, even though he was one of the best in terms of grade, he was moved around quite often to combat the runs. This is something he will need to improve on in the future.
He is double-teamed by RG and RT and is unable to defend his space.
He is quickly repelled in the first moment in the double-team and opens the lane for the running game.
Only played two drives. He was the fifth-worst in run blocking with 50.3 and the worst in pass blocking with 12, giving up one pressure (1 rush) and making a holding after being overpowered by the IDL.
He is overpowered right off the snap by DaQuan Jones using a hump move. With the path open to Geno, Haynes commits the holding.
The Bills wisely call a stunt on the two rookies’ side. They get lost in the protection and have a clear path to the QB, Geno runs to his own endzone (risking a safety) but manages to escape.
If there is one loser from the Ernest Jones trade, it is the UTEP rookie. He had no chance with Jerome Baker on the roster, and now with Jones, the earliest he should see snaps again is 2025. Too bad, I was enjoying his development.
Received the highest offensive grade on the team with 85.5. He had 2 receptions for 34 yards and 2 first downs in the process. He struggled a lot, as did the entire OL, in the red zone, but he was still fourth on the team in run blocking with 65.3.
The Bills were already in garbage time, so they weren’t marking as hard. He passes the LB and once realizes he’s open, turns to the QB and makes the catch.
Barner is first on the block and run a delayed route. He watches the LB’s movement in...
