Winning looks good on Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills
It’s often difficult arguing with success, and that’s exactly what the Buffalo Bills have found during the first half of the 2024 NFL season. The Bills are 6-2 and sitting third in the AFC. They have a three-game lead on their nearest AFC East foes, the New York Jets.
Quarterback Josh Allen has been playing a particularly impressive brand of MVP-caliber football, having thrown 14 touchdowns and just one interception, adding another three rushing scores as well. Things are pretty great for Bills Mafia right now.
Sure, there are those two earlier losses against the Baltimore Ravens and Houston Texans to temper the hype a bit. However, the Ravens (Week 8) and Texans (Week 9 Thursday Night Football) lost their most recent games and both now trail the Bills in the AFC standings.
When we asked Rumblers earlier this week if they were confident in the direction of the Bills, and their chances at winning the AFC East by Week 11, it was presumed the results were going to be favorable. Again, there’s very little reason to find fault in a team that’s currently on a three-game win streak.
But fandom is fickle, and you never know if something recent One Bills Drive has done or failed to do will cause people to lose confidence.Did that happen this week? Not. One. Bit.
This week, fan confidence jumped 10% following Buffalo’s road win against the Seattle Seahawks. Right now, 96% of respondents are confident in the Bills’ direction. Should Buffalo win in Week 9, will that number increase again?
In this week’s SB Nation Reacts poll with FanDuel Sportsbook, voters weighed in their beliefs about who will cover in today’s Buffalo Bills-Dolphins game. Perhaps unsurprisingly, 85% of people side with Buffalo covering at -6.5.
There’s not a whole lot of confidence in Miami Dolphins outside their locker room. Right now, voters over at The Phinsider are not content. Just 7% of respondents say they’re confident in the team’s direction.
Rounding back to the conversation of NFL MVP, Josh Allen’s chances at finally earning the honor are pretty high right now, especially when considering the current betting odds for him to win. Things have shaped up a bit different according to SB Nation’s national poll asking who has been the MVP of the season to this point.
Ahead of Week 9, many voters see quarterback Jared Goff (31%) as the overall leader in the clubhouse, with rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels (28%) hot on his heels. Allen comes in as a distant third in this race, with just 17% of voters naming him midseason MVP.
