The Dolphins hope the season’s second act looks much better than the first.
The Miami Dolphins struggled early in the 2024 NFL season, but a gritty win over the New England Patriots marked a step in the right direction. Following a Week 6 bye, the Dolphins look to push their three-game losing streak further into the rear-view mirror with a win Sunday against the Indianapolis Colts.
“I would say that [the bye] came at the right time, just because we came off of a three-game losing streak and then we ended up winning against the Patriots,” Dolphins running back Raheem Mostert said. “It just feels like – I’m happy that it happened early. Yeah, it’s going to be tough because we have a long stretch, but we’re not the only team in the league that had a bye week that week. So we’re just excited to move on and our focus right now is the Colts.”
The Dolphins feature the league’s 18th-ranked rushing attack, but the unit is gaining momentum after rushing for 193 yards against the Patriots. Mostert is healthy, fellow running back De’Von Achane cleared concussion protocol, and rookie tailback Jaylen Wright averages 4.8 yards per carry on 29 attempts.
Indianapolis enters action Sunday with the No. 31 rushing defense, allowing 155.2 yards per game on the ground. The Colts have adjusted defensively in recent weeks, allowing an average of 131 rushing yards as they’ve gone 2-1 over the last games.
“We’re just excited about the opportunity to go out here and try to run against the Colts,” Mostert said. “They got a good defense though. They got [Zaire] Franklin at the linebacker position and [E.J.] Speed, they both are great linebackers that are running down, and they’re pretty fast and they’re making plays for themselves.
“So it’s going to be a challenge, but we’re excited for the challenge.”
