After leading the Titans for years, Vrabel is helping Kevin Stefanski and the Browns front office
The Cleveland Browns are among a bunch of NFL teams who are just playing out the rest of the 2024 NFL season. The Browns are currently slotted for the fourth overall selection in the 2025 NFL draft with four other teams also sitting with two victories. Our rooting guide for Week 11 hopes for a few of those teams to get victories even if they are not likely.
What is interesting in Cleveland is that losing might be best for draft positioning but could it put HC Kevin Stefanski on the hot seat?
Some believe that Mike Vrabel, the team’s consultant for both Stefanski and GM Andrew Berry, could be on deck with the Browns.
According to Dianna Russini (subscriber, $), the success of certain coaches this season has Vrabel’s name at the top of the coaching candidate list:
For now, the former player-turned-coach getting the most hype around the league is former Titans head coach and current Browns consultant Mike Vrabel. As owners look around at the league’s successful head coaches, it’s the culture-builders that stand out (think Dan Campbell, Mike Tomlin and Raheem Morris). Vrabel certainly fits into that category, a former player who can unite a locker room while also holding his players accountable. Vrabel was a finalist for the Chargers and Falcons jobs last year. He wants to coach in 2025 and I expect him to have his pick of available jobs.
If Vrabel does take a head coaching job, he could take some from his current employer with him.
It will be interesting if Vrabel is selective in taking his next head coaching job. With the Tennessee Titans, the defensive-minded Vrabel had good teams but never great quarterback play or explosive offenses.
