Love’s injury is not serious, according to an MRI he underwent on Monday
While Green Bay Packers head coach Matt LaFleur didn’t say much about his team’s injuries during his Monday press conference, and even stated his concern that his staff might be leaking information to the media, reports continued to surface about the injuries the Packers suffered during their Week 8 win versus the Jacksonville Jaguars. Notably, reports have surfaced about the status of quarterback Jordan Love, running back Josh Jacobs, cornerback Jaire Alexander and safety Evan Williams, who are all starters on the team.
According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, Love’s MRI on Monday confirmed that he’ll be “day to day” this week and has a chance of playing against the Detroit Lions in what could be the deciding game of the NFC North race. LaFleur said that if Love can protect himself and is cleared for action, he will play, rather than rest his groin injury for a week going into the bye. Pelissero’s co-worker Ian Rapoport added that Love’s injury is a groin strain, not a tear.
Per Sports Illustrated’s Bill Huber, Jacobs — who looked hobbled in his final carry of the day versus the Jaguars — will play versus Detroit. According to his report, there are “no concerns about Jacobs’ availability for Sunday.”
ESPN’s Rob Demovsky broke the news on Monday that Alexander underwent an MRI to see if there was an issue with his knee, which appeared to be banged up at the end of the game in Jacksonville. In an update from Demovsky, he stated that the MRI showed no “significant concerns” to the team but that no decision has been made about Alexander’s status this week. If Alexander doesn’t play, the next man up opposite of Keisean Nixon would be Eric Stokes — who exited Sunday’s action late in the game.
Lastly, CheeseheadTV’s Aaron Nagler reported that the hamstring injury that led to Williams dropping out against the Jaguars is not a long-term concern for the team. If Williams can’t go against the Lions, though, that will probably move slot defender Javon Bullard back to a full-time safety position. At that point, it would be interesting to see if the team played Nixon back in the slot — a role he filled at the start of this season and all of the 2023 campaign — or if they look in a different direction.
As a whole, Packers fans should be feeling positive about these injury updates. Green Bay didn’t just dodge one bullet but went full Neo in The Matrix and appears to have survived several projectiles.
