Indianapolis adds a dynamic playmaker in the second round.

The Indianapolis Colts have selected Texas wide receiver Adonai Mitchell with the No. 52 selection in the NFL Draft, according to multiple reports.

After trading back from their original pick (No. 46) and getting two fifth-round picks in return (No.’s 142 and 155), the Colts opted to take Mitchell and give second-year quarterback Anthony Richardson another weapon to work with for the upcoming season and beyond.

Mitchell was extremely productive for the Longhorns in 2023, recording 55 receptions for 845 yards and 11 touchdowns. Mitchell averaged 15.4 yards per reception and certainly provides more of a ‘YAC’ (yards after catch) element that the Colts have been looking for under second-year head coach Shane Steichen.

The 6-2, 205-pound wideout adds was quite the playmaker during his last season at Texas. Mitchell, additionally, ran a 4.33 40-yard dash during February’s NFL Combine, which adds an intriguing speed element to a Colts’ wide receiver room that already consists of Michael Pittman Jr., Alec Pierce and Josh Downs and others.

Mitchell meets what Ballard and Co. typically look for in a wide receiver, as Mitchell scored an over ‘RAS’ (raw athletic score) of 9.99. Indianapolis has one of the league’s more strong-armed quarterbacks in Richardson, and adding a player with Mitchell’s physical traits and speed makes a lot of sense for the team.
