Bills Mafia should root for a Giants win tonight. But is that the wise bet?

The Pittsburgh Steelers are back in primetime for the second week in a row, looking for a double-dip in the win column against the second of two NFL teams that have New York in their name yet share the confines of MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.

The New York Giants will try to slow the Steelers’ roll tonight, but doing so in what used the formerly iconic-named Heinz Field is no easy task, regardless of record. For the Giants, their record has done them no favors in 2024. At 2-5, New York is no great shakes this season. Meanwhile, the 5-2 Steelers once again seem to pluck wins out of the air regardless of what statistics say should be their reality.

Head coach Mike Tomlin is a true leader of men, and he has Pittsburgh playing well no matter who’s playing quarterback between Justin Fields or, of late, Russell Wilson. Fields helped the team reach a 4-2 record before Wilson took over in Week 7 en route to another win.

Things seem very unsettled in Pittsburgh’s quarterback room, but to this point there have been no ill effects. The same can’t be said of the Giants, where questions about the efficacy of quarterback Daniel Jones continue to drown out the drone of Manhattan traffic.

For tonight’s game, the Steelers enter as 5.5-point favorites, according to FanDuel Sportsbook, and the total O/U is set at 37.5 points.

Logic tells me to pick the Steelers tonight, but the heart wants what it wants and that’s for the Giants to give Pittsburgh another loss on the season.

Here’s why Bills Mafia should want the Giants to win tonight, per Rachel Auberger’s Bills rooting interests guide:

All that talk about SOV scores could cease if the Steelers can lose at least one more game than the Bills. While rooting for the Giants can be painful, sometimes you have to let the past stay in the past and do what’s best for the present.

A Giants win, along with a Buffalo win and a Baltimore loss on Sunday, would result in the Bills moving up a spot in the AFC playoff picture.

I’ll side with logic here, given that every pick I’ve made the last week has gone the other way in hoping for the outcome to best-position the Buffalo Bills.

Pittsburgh Steelers 27, New York Giants 13
