A 53-man roster spot opened with the waiving of cornerback Marco Wilson.

A spot on the 53-man roster has changed hands for the New England Patriots.

After waiving cornerback Marco Wilson, the organization officially activated fellow cornerback Alex Austin on Monday afternoon.

Austin, 23, saw his 21-day practice window open before the calendar turned to November after missing all of last month while on injured reserve. Working back from an ankle injury, the NFL sophomore went from a limited participant to a full participant for consecutive weeks. Recently carrying a questionable game status, Wednesday loomed as the deadline for his return to the active roster.

The Oregon State product entered the league in the seventh round of the 2023 draft at No. 252 overall. Following stops with the Buffalo Bills and Houston Texans, he arrived in Foxborough last November and had his exclusive rights retained on a one-year deal prior to free agency in March.

Austin stands eight appearances and one start into his stay with New England. The 6-foot-1, 191-pound corner has totaled one interception and nine tackles over the course of 225 snaps on defense and 42 snaps on special teams.

The Miami Dolphins host next Sunday’s 1 p.m. ET kickoff at Hard Rock Stadium.
