Panthers select Michael Barrett with the no. 240 overall pick

The Carolina Panthers have selected linebacker Michael Barrett with the 240th overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. This Michigan product is an undersized, but hard hitting linebacker whose future in the NFL is going to be as special teams guys.

He played in 64 college games in five seasons, amassing 208 tackles, 12.5 for loss, and 8.5 sacks. He also had two interceptions, one for a touchdown, and four forced fumbles.

Barrett’s athletic profile leaves a lot to be desired and his play instincts apparently don’t make up for that. He plays fast and hits hard, we’ll see if that’s enough to carve out a role on the Panthers new special teams unit this season.
