Two rookies - RB Jonathon Brooks and DT Jaden Crumedy - are nearing their first action of the 2024 season.
The Carolina Panthers front office is busy throughout the season with transactions, roster moves, and injury updates. Here’s what’s happening at Mint Street this week.
Per the Panthers team website, the following players are on the injury report as of publication:
Extended the contract of RB Chuba Hubbard through the 2028 season. General manager Dan Morgan rewarded the Panthers workhorse running back with a 4-year, $33.2 million contract extension as covered here at CSR.
Activated RB Jonathon Brooks from the non-football injury list. With Chuba Hubbard extended through 2028, the Panthers are getting tantalizing close to activating their second round rookie running back. He and Hubbard should form a solid backfield duo for years to come.
Activated DT Jaden Crumedy from injured reserve. In addition to Jonathon Brooks getting ready to make his rookie debut, fellow rookie Jaden Crumedy has also been activated from the IR. Crumedy was the Panthers sixth round pick in the 2024 draft.
Waived DT Nick Thurman. As the Panthers continue their rebuild they waived veteran Nick Thurman who appeared in 26 games for the Panthers over the last two years with four starts and 50 tackles.
Signed WR Cam Johnson to the practice squad. After trading wide receiver Jonathan Mingo, Carolina signed undrafted rookie free agent Cam Johnson to the practice squad. After spending time with Vanderbilt and Arizona State, Johnson transferred to Northwestern in 2023. He finished among the Top 10 last year in the Big 10 in both receptions (54) and receiving yards (715).
