Good news, everyone! (Unless you’re on the west coast.)
This Sunday’s game between the Green Bay Packers and Detroit Lions is shaping up to be one of the biggest in the NFL this season. With these two teams sitting in the top two spots in the NFC North — matching most preseason projections — Sunday’s winner will take a massive step forward in the race for a division title.
The NFL and its television partners rightly anticipated that this would be a big game, and when the 2024 schedule was released, it was placed in a prime spot on the week 9 schedule: as the primary late-afternoon game on the network that has the doubleheader broadcast. FOX gets two games this week, and as such, nearly every home in the USA will be able to watch Packers-Lions on local television with the network making the contest its “Game of the Week.”
Here’s a look at the broadcast map, with the areas getting the game shown in red:
That broadcast area also includes Hawaii, though Alaska belongs in the blue category. Areas in that color will instead see the Los Angeles Rams and the Seattle Seahawks.
But that means that nearly the entire country will be able to see the Packers try to upset the Lions, who are early 3.5-point favorites for this game at Lambeau Field. Additionally, as the biggest game on FOX’s schedule this week, the network will send its #1 broadcasting team of Kevin Burkhardt, Tom Brady, and Erin Andrews to Green Bay to call the game.
Besides the two games on FOX affiliates, there are a pair of other games set to be shown on CBS in the late afternoon time slot: Bears-Cardinals and Jaguars-Eagles. Fans in Wisconsin will get neither of those, however, with CBS giving the state Broncos-Ravens in the early time slot instead. Meanwhile, the early game on FOX for Wisconsin viewers will be Cowboys-Falcons.
Join us on Sunday afternoon to follow along with the game to see if the Packers can make a big statement in the division race or if Detroit will remain the class of the NFC North for the time being.
