NFL trade deadline: Week 9 will decide Browns moves much like in 2022

Browns rumors have swirled but 2 straight wins could change things

The NFL trade deadline is less than a week away but a lot of moves have already been made. The Cleveland Browns kicked off what many assumed was a season of being a seller at the deadline when they traded WR Amari Cooper for a third-round pick.

Now, with Jameis Winston at quarterback and a surprise win over the Baltimore Ravens, things might go in a different direction.

The Browns have been rumored to be open to dealing several defenders but not Myles Garrett. A few starters would make sense for Cleveland to trade if they are indeed selling but the AFC playoff picture could change the Browns stance.

A week 9 victory over the Los Angeles Chargers, who currently hold the seventh seed, could lead Cleveland’s front office to either stand pat or even look to add to the team despite what would be a 3-6 record.

It has happened before, just two years ago.

The Browns were 2-5 heading into Monday Night Football against the Cincinnati Bengals on Halloween night. At the time, RB Kareem Hunt was rumored to be on his way out along with a number of other players.

Cleveland fans know their history well as the Browns destroyed the Bengals 32-13 and held on to Hunt and others as their playoff hopes stayed flickering.

While that year ended with a 7-10 record, a win in 2024 could have the same impact on the NFL trade deadline.
