NFL QB futures: 14 teams have certainty at the most important position

Patrick Mahomes leads the list but the Browns look to the NFL draft, NFL free agency for their next answer

As the Cleveland Browns prepare to play out the rest of the games in the 2024 NFL season, the questions around the quarterback position are back. For a few fleeting moments, Browns fans thought things were squared away with Baker Mayfield and, shortly after the shock wore off, when the trade was made for Deshaun Watson.

As we have already started our look at a few quarterbacks in the upcoming NFL draft, including placing three in different categories, and what NFL free agency looks like at the most important position, it is important to note what the rest of the league has going on at QB.

For this exercise, a party of one took a look at each team in the NFL and gave a yes/no answer on whether that team has certainty at the position for the future. For this exercise, certainty was as simple as a “QB good enough to lead his team to playoffs for the next three years.” As teams look to the future, three to four years is about how far out they go.

You could argue with some of these decisions but it is important to note the word “certainty.” Not “possible” or “likely” but “certain” that they have their quality quarterback for the future.

With that in mind, the number of yeses below vacillated between 11 and 14 before ending up at the high end. You could certainly argue a number of cases for the answers below to be switched:
