The DBN staff predicts the Week 6 games, plus the national media make their predictions for Browns vs. Eagles.
Here is what the national media is saying about the Week 6 game between the Browns and Eagles:
The Browns are playing consecutive road games and the offense is a mess with Deshaun Watson. The Eagles are coming off a bye where they had time to stew about their last blowout loss to the Bucs. I think that stewing will pay off as they get back on track and Jalen Hurts plays better in this one than he’s been playing.
I know we’re only five games into the season, but I’ve already seen enough of the Browns offense this year to know that whatever they’re doing doesn’t seem to be working. Whenever Deshaun Watson drops back to pass, I’ve noticed that one of three things seems to happen: He gets sacked, he throws an incomplete pass or he fumbles the ball. And on the rare occasion where he does complete pass, it goes for 1.2 yards.
Through five games this season, Watson has been a disaster. As a matter of fact, he’s just the second quarterback over the past 75 years to attempt at least 25 passes in his first five games without hitting 200 yards a single time. At this point, the Browns might want to give up on throwing forward passes.
The Eagles will come out of the bye with better passing-game health and a pressure defense that will come together better for DC Vic Fangio. Nick Sirianni can cool off his hot seat while making things even warmer for Kevin Stefanski. Look for Jalen Hurts to have a big all-around game as Cleveland’s front also gets pushed around up front for a rested Saquon Barkley and the running game. Deshaun Watson may finally prompt a change with a little more poor play on the road in the NFC East again.
Will the Browns bench Deshaun Watson, who has been sacked 18 times through a three-game losing streak? Jameis Winston is the backup, and he might find some success against the Eagles, who are coming off a bye week and could get A.J. Brown back from a hamstring injury. Philadelphia has a minus-6 turnover ratio, and that might allow the Browns to hang around on the road. It’s still a reach knowing Cleveland is 2-4-1 ATS as a road underdog since last season.
