Green has been on the practice squad
The New York Giants continued to shuffle their roster on Wednesday. Head coach Brian Daboll announced that cornerback Art Green has been signed from the practice squad to the 53-man roster to replace Nick McCloud, who was released on Tuesday.
Green is a former undrafted free agent who spent most of the 2023 season on the Denver Broncos practice squad. He has been on the Giants’ practice squad since the end of August.
Green, 24, was elevated for one game earlier this season. In Week 3, Green played 11 defensive snaps and was credited with one tackle in the Giants’ 21-15 victory over the Cleveland Browns.
“We thought that bringing Art Green up was a good move for us and that’s what we did,” said Daboll, declining to elaborate on the release of McCloud. “I would just say that that’s a decision that we made and Art’s going to have an opportunity.”
A day after releasing punter Matt Haack with Jamie Gillan ready to return from his hamstring injury, the Giants moved another step closer to putting their entire kicking operation back to its original 2024 form. The team opened the 21-day practice window for placekicker Graham Gano, who has been on IR with a hamstring injury. Haack re-signed to the practice squad.
Wide receiver Darius Slayton (concussion protocol) will not practice on Wednesday and might not travel to Germany with the team on Thursday night.
