The Jaguars are 2-9 and in line for the first pick of the 2025 NFL Draft after losing by 46 at Ford Field.

The Jacksonville Jaguars struggled to get anything going on either side of the ball allowing scoring drives to the Lions on eight straight drives, while Jacksonville’s offense would not score one touchdown. Sunday’s matchup with the Detroit Lions directly placed a mirror on this Jacksonville team’s performance under head coach Doug Pederson, but also the four-year rebuild under General Manager Trent Baalke. Game Recap:

Jacksonville would be missing QB Trevor Lawrence for the matchup due to his AC strain. Additionally, RB Tank Bigsby was ruled out for the Jaguars. Meanwhile, Detroit would be without TE Sam Laporta for the matchup also.

1st Quarter

The Jacksonville offense began the day with the ball, opening the game with a very efficient 9-play, 29-yard drive featuring multiple manufactured touches for WR Brian Thomas Jr. The Jaguars picked up two first downs before being stopped on the third down Mac Jones scramble. Kicker Cam Little then drilled a career-long 59-yard field goal. (Jaguars 3, Lions 0)

Detroit then responded by driving down the field with relative ease on a 9-play, 70-yard, 4:37 touchdown drive featuring many missed tackles by the Jaguars’ defense on the Lions running back core. Detroit faced zero third or fourth down attempts on the drive, picking up four early first downs on the drive which was capped by a David Montgomery two-yard touchdown rush. (Jaguars 3, Lions 7)

The Jacksonville offense was unable to answer this score, however responding with a three-and-out. With Center Mitch Morse being evaluated on the sideline, Jacksonville faced a third-and-one where Travis Etienne was hit in the backfield from interior pressure (via Luke Fortner).

2nd Quarter

After the Jacksonville punt, the Lions then put together a long, 13-play, 93-yard, 5:27 touchdown drive where Detroit converted one third and one fourth down conversion. The Lions offensive line continued dominating the matchup, often in favorable down and distances on second downs. Picking up chunk gains of 18, 23, and 24-yards Detroit wrapped up the drive with a Jagmyr Gibbs second down, one-yard touchdown rush. (Jaguars 3, Lions 14)

The Jaguars offense would again answer with a three-and-out, as Jacksonville was forced to call a timeout due to having the wrong on-field personnel. They would then commit a false start before the next play’s snap and lose three yards on the third-down screen pass. Detroit would then go three-for-three on touchdown drives, taking the following series 64 yards on eight plays. The 4:12 drive was capped by another David Montgomery touchdown rush, this one a 6-yarder, where the Jacksonville defensive front was unable to get any push. (Jaguars 3, Lions 21)
