The Miami Dolphins needed help along the defensive line after losing linebacker Jaelan Phillips to a season-ending injury.
The Miami Dolphins signed linebacker Tyus Bowser to the 53-man roster on Thursday. The 2017 second-round pick was most recently on the Seattle Seahawks practice squad and played 49% of defensive snaps in Week 4 against the Detroit Lions.
Bowser, 29, missed the 2023 season due to a knee injury he suffered in the summer. He set a career-high with seven sacks in 2021 but played in just nine games and recorded two sacks in 2022.
Dolphins defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver worked with Bowser in Baltimore, where Weaver coached from 2021 to 2023, and Bowser spent six seasons after being drafted by the Ravens in 2017.
Miami needed reinforcements at linebacker after losing edge rusher Jaelan Phillips to a season-ending ACL injury. With Bradley Chubb and Cameron Goode on the physically unable to perform list, Bowser provides immediate help as a pass rusher.
The Dolphins average fewer than two sacks per game, and while the unit hasn’t played with a lead this season, it needs to generate more pressure and force turnovers to kickstart a struggling offense averaging fewer than 12 points per game.
