The Packers head coach shared just how tired he is of the outside discussions on the wide receiver room

Green Bay Packers head coach Matt LaFleur was holding his Monday presser following the team’s 23-10 preseason win over the Cleveland Browns on Saturday when the topic of the number one wide receiver came up again, and he made it known just how much he hates the discussions surrounding the position group.

The phrase “number one receiver” was specifically brought up during a question about where Dontayvion Wicks fits in regarding the top 4 wide receivers on the roster, and Matt LaFleur didn’t hold back:

“I wanna vomit every time I hear ‘number one wide receiver’, to be honest with you. It drives me crazy. It’s something that you guys talk about. I feel like we’ve gotta bunch of them.”

He then praised each of their talents and the benefits he sees in not having a clear WR1.

“The beauty of them is they’re all capable of doing many things which gives us a lot of versatility from an offensive perspective in terms of how we use these guys and deploy their talents. Especially those top 4 guys. They’re all capable of being a number one in some capacity...”

He also mentioned which receiver gets the ball will change on a week-to-week basis, much like last season, pointing out that it frees them up offensively.

You can watch the entire question and answer below starting at the 11-minute mark.

Matt LaFleur has previously stated that he doesn’t think it matters who the top wide receiver is, calling it a “good problem to have”.

Safe to say we still shouldn’t expect a WR1 declaration from the Packers head coach, despite any outside noise about it. Instead, I’ll just hope that the next time LaFleur is asked to name their number one wide receiver, he channels his inner Nick Saban and gives us his best “I’m not going to, so quit asking” impression.
