Many have been saying that passing stats and overall quarterback play across the NFL are down this season, but both seem to have normalized somewhat after the opening weeks of the 2024 campaign.

One quarterback who has stepped up his play in recent weeks is Jalen Hurts of the Philadelphia Eagles, who has guided his team to a 7-2 record, which is currently the best mark in the NFC East.

He has played excellent football during the Eagles’ five-game winning streak, but he is nowhere to be found in the MVP discussion, and Keyshawn Johnson said on Fox Sports 1’s “Speak” that Hurts isn’t considered a top QB despite putting up similar stats to Joe Burrow of the Cincinnati Bengals.

If one were to take a poll of fans and even coaches or executives on whether Hurts or Burrow is a better signal-caller, Burrow would probably win, and he is consistently considered one of the three to five best players at his position.

But as Johnson pointed out, Hurts was the runner-up in the voting for the MVP award in 2022, which was the season the Eagles went to the brink of winning the Vince Lombardi Trophy.

So far this season, Hurts has thrown for 1,976 yards, 12 touchdowns and five interceptions while completing 69.8 percent of his pass attempts and running for 10 touchdowns, and during Philly’s winning streak, he has 16 total touchdowns and just one interception.

Philly will play a big contest on Thursday when they host the Washington Commanders, who are 7-3, on Thursday, and this game could very well decide who ends up winning the NFC East.
