New Minnesota Vikings quarterback JJ McCarthy was tasked with the honor of throwing out the first pitch at the Minnesota Twins game Tuesday night.

It did not go well for him.

It was bad. So bad.

The Vikings’ first round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, who completed 67.6 percent of his passes during his three years with the Michigan Wolverines, missed badly during the ceremonial toss, and it wasn’t even close.

Seriously? JJ McCarthy, who gets paid millions to throw a ball for a living, couldn’t even get the baseball close enough for the catcher to knock it down? How much are the Vikings going to have to pay him? He is reportedly expected to sign a four-year deal worth $22 million with around $13 million paid up front as a signing bonus and he can’t even hit a wide open catcher?

Wait, where have we seen this before? Oh yeah, during his first practice with Minnesota last month.

Heck, even Grimace… GRIMACE was able to hit the catcher with his ceremonial first pitch on one hop! Hey, he’s purple. Maybe the Vikings should sign him to a $22 million contract instead.

Naturally, fans (unlike the catcher Tuesday night) had a ball with JJ McCarthy’s terrible first pitch at the Twins game on social media.

“Thankfully there were only 63 people there to witness our quarterback of the future launch a duck,” a Vikings fan commented. “To his credit the baseball weighs approximately 9 oz less than a football and the circumference isn’t even close to comparison it’s going to be a long f—— season #SKOL.”

“Showing that pinpoint accuracy again I see,” read another comment.

“He’s used to hitting moving targets, let’s go with that,” someone else joked.

The good news for Vikings fans after seeing that display is that Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell said last week that Sam Darnold will be leading training camp next month as the team’s QB1. At least, I think that’s good news.
