FOX Sports has suggested this is the week for the return of two key players to the roster.

The Kansas City Chiefs’ reinforcements appear to be on their way.

As first reported by FOX Sports’ Jordan Schultz, Kansas City plans to designate both running back Isiah Pacheco and defensive lineman Charles Omenihu to return this week. Pacheco is currently on the club’s Reserve/Injured list, while Omenihu has been on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list from training camp.

Pacheco fractured his fibula in Kansas City’s Week 2 win over the Cincinnati Bengals. The running back’s injury required surgery and came with a return-to-play timeline of six to eight weeks. Omenihu tore his ACL in the Chiefs’ AFC Championship game win over the Baltimore Ravens.

During his usual Monday Zoom press conference, head coach Andy Reid was asked about the status of wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster, Pacheco and Omenihu.

“Listen, I think they’re all close,” said Reid. “I’d probably tell you JuJu closer than the other two, but I would tell you that – we might have them out there, we’ll just see how it goes here [Monday] and [Tuesday]. They’re very close, all three of them.”

A return to the practice field for Pacheco and Omenihu would open up a 21-day window in which the Chiefs need to activate them to the 53-man roster. Otherwise, their seasons would be over.

Considering how the Chiefs’ athletic training staff typically handles long-term injuries, Pacheco and Omenhiu’s outlook for Week 12 against the Carolina Panthers seems more reasonable than jumping right back in for this week’s Week 11 matchup against the Buffalo Bills.
