Has Denver turned the page on ineptitude?
Take the first quarter and flush it down the toilet. The Humphrey fumble and ensuing touchdown were disappointing and it looked like Denver was on course, yet again, to play down to their competition. This was the kind of game, in recent years, that Denver would have found a way to lose.
Could it be that Broncos are no longer a “get-right” game for bad teams?
The Broncos that showed up for quarters 2-4 was impressive. Bo Nix threw the ball downfield with the kind of confidence Broncos Country has been waiting for. It felt like once Denver had secured the lead, coach Sean Payton used the game to build the young quarterback’s confidence in stretching the field. Throwing past the sticks? Are you allowed to do that?
With the Baltimore defense on the week 9 horizon, it was imperative to establish early that Denver can be a deep threat team. Sunday’s game should loom large in Harbaugh’s brain when he considers stacking the box against the Broncos. Not only was it fun to watch, but evolving the offense, right before what portends to be one of the toughest stretches on the schedule, is strategically brilliant.
We also can’t discount the confidence a game like the one against the Panthers gives Bo Nix. He is developing into something special right before our eyes. While there’s a long way to go before he punches his ticket the the Pro Bowl, the growth that every citizen of Broncos Country wanted to see has been on full display these last few weeks.
The Denver Broncos have won 5 of their last 6 and are looking better than they’ve looked in years, Relevance! Are they going to win the division? Is Denver going to the Super Bowl? Probably not, but the prospect of making it to the playoffs is certainly in the offing.
Something special is being built in Denver. Finally.
