Good Morning Broncos Country!
Good Morning Broncos Country!
Could we be on the verge of seeing rookie running back Audric Estime getting a real opportunity to be the lead back in the Broncos backfield? It is possible. Earlier this week, head coach Sean Payton was asked about this possibility and said: “I think that’s a good and fair question and one that I think I would answer, ‘Yes.’”.
Now, we have heard similar statements like this from him this season and Estime has remained as the Broncos' third back throughout the majority of the season. He did miss four games due to an injury but outside of that, his fumbling issues have been a big reason why he has not been getting carries. Offensive coordinator Joe Lombardi was asked about this today and told reporters that Estime is “working hard” on prioritizing ball security after having issues with it in limited action this season.
DNVR’s Broncos insider Zac Stevens is among the people who believe we will see “big dose of Audric Estime” this Sunday vs. the Chiefs. If that is the case, the rookie has a real opportunity to take over the Broncos backfield.
Veteran Javonte Williams has had his moments this season but overall, he has been a below-average starting running back. He is averaging just 3.8 yards per carry this season and only has 2 rushing touchdowns. Again, he has had his moments, but overall, the Broncos need better from their starting running back.
Estime is a big and powerful running back who has good vision and the ability to make defenders miss. He had a successful college career at Notre Dame and now could be the Broncos' answer in their backfield. With rookie quarterback Bo Nix looking like the real deal, getting him a strong run game to lean on should be a priority. If Estime can be that, that will be huge for the Broncos' second-half playoff run. If not, running back will join wide receiver and tight end as areas they need to improve on this upcoming offseason.
We shall see if this is the week we finally see a heavy dose of Audric Estime or not. There have been similar reports and comments before, so we shall see. If it is, I hope he takes advantage of the opportunity and has a breakout game vs. the Chiefs.
