The Bills now have three picks to work with on Day 2 of the 2024 NFL Draft

The Buffalo Bills have yet to make their first selection in the 2024 NFL Draft, opting instead to trade back twice — and ultimately out of Round 1 on Thursday evening. In doing so, the Bills manipulated their draft board a bit, managing to keep their stockpile at 10 selections.

As of right now, Buffalo has the following picks (as shared by Chris Brown):

  • Round 2: 33 (from Panthers), 60
  • Round 3: 95 (from Chiefs)
  • Round 4: 128
  • Round 5: 141 (from Panthers), 144 (from Bears), 160 (from Packers), 163
  • Round 6: 204
  • Round 7: 221 (from Chiefs)

The biggest news here is the addition of a third-round pick. Entering Thursday night, the Bills didn’t have a single selection in Round 3 after making a trade last season for cornerback Rasul Douglas — which involved relinquishing pick 91. Gaining a pick back in Round 3 was likely enticing to general manager Brandon Beane after the team failed to net a third-round compensatory pick this offseason for the loss of Tremaine Edmunds.

Moving out of the first round means that Buffalo won’t have a first-round rookie contract on the books from the 2024 class. As such, they won’t have the fifth-year option to use on any player from this year’s class.

The picks the Bills traded away Thursday evening were as follows:

  • Round 1: 28 (to Chiefs), 32 (from Chiefs, traded to Panthers)
  • Round 4: 133 (to Chiefs)
  • Round 6: 200 (to Panthers)
  • Round 7: 248 (to Chiefs)

After the events of Round 1, it’s more than possible that we see general manager Brandon Beane work the board to manipulate it to his benefit. That may include more moves back, perhaps as soon as their opportunity to select a player at 33.
