KhaDarel Hodge spent 2 seasons in Cleveland, helped knock off Bakery Mayfield on Thursday Night Football
The history of former Cleveland Browns players used to be littered with guys who never found their way back into the league or had the occasional chance on a 53-man roster. That is no longer true as, now, the NFL is littered with former Browns all over the landscape including starting QBs Baker Mayfield and Jacoby Brissett along with Joe Flacco, who could start this week for the injured Anthony Richardson.
Quarterbacks are not the only players who have spent time in Cleveland and now have chances elsewhere. KhaDarel Hodge was once a training camp star with two receiving touchdowns in 2021’s preseason only to see him be released before the start of the regular season.
On Thursday Night Football, Hodge scored only his second regular season touchdown of his career. This time, in overtime to knock off Mayfield:
In 25 games with the Browns between 2019 and 2020, Hodge had just 15 receptions for 256 yards and zero touchdowns. Mayfield was Cleveland’s starter during that time when Hodge was only targeted 27 times while playing in over 400 snaps on offense.
For the Browns, Hodge was mostly a special teams player. For his career, the 6’2” receiver has played almost as many special teams snaps as he has on offense with his best receiving numbers coming with the Atlanta Falcons the last two seasons.
Browns fans, besides the guitar celebration, what do you remember most about Hodge’s time with the team?
