Is Audric Estimé ready to be RB1 for the Denver Broncos? Fans sure think so after our weekly survey on the subject.
In this week’s SB Nation Reacts survey, I asked Denver Broncos fans if they felt rookie running back Audric Estimé was ready to assume the starting running back role over Javonte Williams. Despite the loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, fans overwhelmingly liked what they saw from the rookie with 86% of you saying he should be handed the reins.
Estimé piled up 14 rushing attempts for 53 yards in their loss to the Chiefs, but seemed more decisive to the open holes than Williams has been most of the season. He emerged from the doghouse after fumbling twice in his first nine NFL carries where he focused on ball security before making his return to the lineup in full force last week. We’ll have to see how that trend continues into this critical home game against the Atlanta Falcons.
Also despite that 16-14 road load, fan confidence ticked up this week from 87% to 91%. The reason might be that Bo Nix outplayed Patrick Mahomes and also earned NFL Rookie of the Week honors.
That confidence could be due to the long search for a true franchise quarterback seemingly on the verge of ending with the ascension of Nix this season. He’s ‘just a rookie’ but has the poise and decision-making of a multi-year veteran. As a fan, I can’t wait to see how this kid grows in to the NFL and hopefully he gets his first playoff action later this year.
