It was a two-touchdown day for the Falcons tight end.
The Falcons beat the Bucs for the second time this season on Sunday in a matchup that was sometimes fun, occasionally frustrating, and at all times stressful to watch. But a W is a W.
Kirk Cousins had a great day, completing 23 of 29 passes for 276 yards and four touchdowns. Bijan Robinson had 63 yards and a touchdown, Darnell Mooney had 92 yards and a score, and Kyle Pitts had 91 yards and two touchdowns. Jessie Bates III forced and recovered a fumble, and Bates and AJ Terrell each intercepted Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield.
If you missed any of the action, here are the top highlights from the Falcons’ win.
Pitts’ first touchdown of the day was a 36-yard pass from Cousins on fourth and 3 with 12:52 remaining in the first quarter. Pitts scored pretty easily.
He doubled his season total when he got into the end zone for a second time with a 49-yard pass from Cousins with 7:19 left to play in the second quarter. This one was called a touchdown in real time, but it looked a little sketchy because Pitts foolishly was not protecting the football. Thankfully it did cross the plane before being forced out of Pitts’ hand.
Cousins was dealing, and Mooney was next up to get into the end zone.
After his early-game Peanut punch forced fumble and recovery, Jessie Bates got the ball back to the offense again with this interception. The pick came off of a flea flicker, and it was really good coverage from Bates. The man’s a highlight reel.
I don’t know about you, but I laughed out loud when I saw this live.
Terrell’s pick of Baker Mayfield today was his second on the season. His first came in Week 6 against the Panthers.
With the win, and with a lot of help from Kirk Cousins’ eight touchdowns this season against the Buccaneers, the Falcons are 5-3, 4-0 in the NFC South, and they remain in first place in the division.
