Dan Orlovsky believes Patriots quarterback Drake Maye is playing his way into a considerable conversation.
Maye was idle for the first five weeks of his rookie season, but the 22-year-old hasn’t looked back since taking over as New England’s starting signal-caller. Maye accounted for 10 total touchdowns over his first six starts and led the Patriots to a pair of wins.
New England still is in line to make a very early pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, but Maye looks better every week and continues to inspire optimism about the future in Foxboro, Mass. Dan Orlovksy certainly has been impressed by the North Carolina product, so much so that he believes Maye should be in the mix for a prestigious award.
“He won’t win it because his team isn’t good enough. But just talking about the play — Drake Maye would absolutely be right in the OROY conversation,” Maye posted to X on Tuesday.”His tape is flat out awesome @Patriots.”
Oddsmakers don’t view Maye as a serious candidate to win Offensive Rookie of the Year. Coming out of Week 11, seven players had shorter odds at FanDuel Sportsbook than Maye to take home the hardware.
But Maye won’t need a trophy to legitimize a productive first season. If he keeps steadily improving for the rest of the campaign, he will help set the Patriots up nicely for the future.
