Gus Logue is joined by Hays Carlyon in the latest Duval Rundown show to discuss Jaguars injury ramifications from Week 8.
Check out episode 25 of Duval Rundown, hosted by Gus Logue.
Gus was joined by 1010XL radio host Hays Carlyon to discuss Christian Kirk’s season-ending injury and Jacksonville Jaguars players who must step up in his absence.
Hays:
“It obviously starts with Parker Washington. He’s shown some comfort, some chemistry with Trevor [Lawrence], had a nice camp and was able to play last year as a rookie. I didn’t think he played particularly well, but at least he got that experience. In [this year’s] training camp and OTAs, he was one of the real bright spots. So I feel like he’s ready to be given that chance.
“When you look at practice squad, Elijah Cooks is going to be the first guy elevated ... 3 career catches, so not much there, but at least he’s got a dynamic, athletic set of traits.”
Gus:
“Last season, Christian Kirk went down against the Cincinnati Bengals- in the 11 games before Kirk went down, Engram averaged 5.8 catches and 47 yards per game and didn’t catch any touchdowns. After Kirk went down, Engram averaged 8.3 catches and 73 yards per game, and he caught 4 touchdowns in six games.
“On paper, it makes sense to plug and chug Parker Washington into Christian Kirk’s role. But I think Evan Engram and Christian Kirk are similar players in terms of how they’re deployed, because you want to be able to weaponize their straight-line speed and their sure hands and their quickness out of breaks. A lot of times you want to weaponize that against middle-of-the-field defenders who aren’t used to covering, so linebackers or safeties or shoddy slot corners. I think there’s going to be a lot of opportunities now for Engram, as we already saw with his touchdown on Sunday after Kirk left.”
