The Miami Dolphins have opened the 2024 NFL season with a 1-3 start. Will they bounce back against an AFC East rival? Not according to the FanDuel oddsmakers.
The Miami Dolphins are off to a miserable start. In 2023, the team averaged over 29 points per game, the second most in the league. Through their first four games this season, the Dolphins’ explosive offense has scored a combined 45 points, the fewest in the league. It has been a bad 2024 for Miami, with a lot of rapid improvement needed if they are going to return to being considered a threat in the AFC playoff picture.
They can start that bounce back against the New England Patriots in Week 5. The Patriots have scored 52 points this season, making this week’s game a showdown between the two most inept scoring offenses in the league. The oddsmakers recognize the struggles of both these teams.
According to FanDuel sportsbook, the Dolphins are 1.5-point underdogs to the Patriots. Based on this season’s results, New England was projected to be in the fight for the first overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. Yet, Miami finds itself behind the Patriots in the AFC East standings and listed as underdogs in a head-to-head matchup.
Miami have fallen and fallen hard.
This line opened at the same 1.5-point line in favor of New England earlier in the week and is basically holding steady as we head into the weekend.
The battle of struggling offenses has FanDuel sportsbook listing the game’s point total at an anemic 36.5 points.
The Patriots are -116 on the moneyline, while the Dolphins are -102.
This marked the first time in 2024 the Patriots are considered the favorites in a game.
