The Miami Dolphins are reportedly finalizing a deal to add free-agent defensive end Calais Campbell to their roster.
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport has reported that this signing marks a sort of homecoming for Campbell. The seasoned defensive end made a name for himself with the Miami Hurricanes in the mid-2000s, and now, nearly two decades later, he’s back in South Florida, this time as one of the NFL’s most respected players.

A former standout player for the University of Miami, Campbell was selected in the second round of the 2008 NFL Draft by the Cardinals where he spent nine seasons in, followed by three with the Jacksonville Jaguars, another three with the Baltimore Ravens, and most recently, one season with the Atlanta Falcons.
Campbell will also be reuniting with former Ravens defensive line coach Anthony Weaver, who recently joined the Dolphins as their defensive coordinator this offseason.
In the previous season with the Falcons, he tied for the team lead in sacks alongside Los Angeles Chargers linebacker Bud Dupree.
Despite the Falcons moving in a different direction, Campbell has proven he can perform at a high level and provides the kind of versatility that defensive coaches highly value.
The Dolphins are counting on the former University of Miami standout to elevate their defensive line. Last season, Campbell started every game for the Falcons, leading the team with 6.5 sacks. He also racked up 10 tackles for loss, 17 quarterback hits, and 56 total tackles, making it his most impactful season since 2019.
After considering retirement in previous seasons, Campbell is now set to join his fifth NFL team as he heads back to Florida, where he enjoyed considerable success with the Jaguars from 2017 to 2019. During this time, he earned Pro Bowl honors and received his lone All-Pro recognition.
Calais Campbell’s addition to Miami’s roster provides valuable depth, especially as Jaelan Phillips and Bradley Chubb recover from significant injuries.
With Christian Wilkins departing for the Las Vegas Raiders in free agency, Campbell’s arrival offers veteran leadership, versatility across the defensive line, and continued impact as a pass rusher.
Known for his positive presence in the locker room, Campbell will complement the existing group of Zach Sieler, Teair Tart, Da’Shawn Hand, Shaquil Barrett, and rookie first-round pick Chop Robinson.
Calais Campbell’s signing also marks a significant addition to an overhauled Miami defense, which has also welcomed veteran talents like Shaquil Barrett, Jordan Poyer, Jordyn Brooks, Kendall Fuller, and several others.
