As the Denver Broncos prepare for Sunday’s AFC road showdown against Lamar Jackson, Derrick Henry, and the Baltimore Ravens, they are hopeful that safety P.J. Locke can make progress this week after he suffered a thumb injury last Wednesday.

Denver Broncos safety P.J. Locke works side field on Wednesday

P.J. Locke missed Sunday’s game as the Denver Broncos dominated the Carolina Panthers. Safety Devon Key stepped up and started in Locke’s place and may be asked to do so again this Sunday as the team prepares for the Baltimore Ravens and their high-octane offense.

At Wednesday’s practice, Locke was spotted on the team’s side field, conditioning. Locke suffered a thumb injury in Wednesday’s practice last week and it forced him out of Sunday’s game. Right now, there is no current timeline or indication on how long Locke will miss, or if he’ll be on track to return this weekend against the Ravens.

While Locke worked the side field, safety Delarrin-Turner Yell’s 21-day window started after he returned to the practice field for the first time since suffering an ACL injury late last season. His rehab process has gone well and the team has been smart with how they’ve brought him along. They’ll have exactly 21 days to decide whether or not to activate him off of injured reserve and onto the active roster or keep him on IR for the rest of the season.

With Locke’s injury, Denver’s current safety depth lands with Key, JL Skinner, and Keidron Smith as options next to Brandon Jones, who led the Broncos with 12 total tackles on Sunday.

Broncos OT Mike McGlinchey leaves practice early after team stretch

Something else to monitor for the Broncos as they prepare for the Ravens is the status of veteran offensive tackle Mike McGlinchey. McGlinchey appeared to get rolled up on during Sunday’s game against the Panthers. He finished the game and was present on Wednesday during team stretch, but exited shortly afterwards.

McGlinchey was limited on Wednesday and Thursday last week, but upgraded to full participation on Friday. His backup, Alex Palczewski, was limited all last week with a high ankle sprain. In the event McGlinchey has a setback this week, Palczewski could be one step closer to returning based on how practice goes the rest of the week.

Denver will release their official injury report here shortly, and we’ll have further updates.
