The Denver Broncos have been on the receiving end of several big NFL rewards over the course of the last month, and to round out October, rookie quarterback Bo Nix is taking home a well deserved honor.
While there is a lot of buzz surrounding Washington Commanders rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels, who is having a terrific rookie season, Denver Broncos rookie quarterback Bo Nix has put together an impressive month in October that has the team in an exciting position going forward.
On Thursday, Nix was named the NFL’s Offensive Rookie of the Month for his performance in the month of October. In this stretch, Nix has completed 82-of-123 passes, completing 66.7% of his throws for 870 yards, seven passing touchdowns, two rushing touchdowns, and only one interception. The Broncos went 3-1 in October.
Nix led all rookies in offensive touchdowns, passing scores, completions, completion percentage, and passing yards for the month, edging out Daniels and Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams. He’s the first Broncos offensive rookie to win the award since Clinton Portis, who won it back in 2002. Denver’s rookie quarterback acknowledged that he’s enjoyed watching all of the other QBs, including veterans this season when preparing for various opponents.
“I don’t really have a choice because those guys are all over video when you watch it throughout the week,” Nix said. “I’m definitely intrigued with other quarterbacks from the league. Not only the young guys, but the veterans that have been doing it for a while. I really enjoy preparing for games because I get to watch countless guys from the league that have played at a high level. Some that are older and have been doing it for a long time, and others like [Commanders QB] Jayden [Daniels], [Bears QB] Caleb [Williams] and others that are just now doing it for the first time. It’s fun to see all of our growth [and] it’s fun to watch other guys.”
One thing is clear when you watch the tape — Nix has continued to develop at a promising rate, and he’s shown steady improvement since Week 1. He’s shown the ability to avoid making the same mistake twice throughout the course of a game while playing with confidence.
November will present the Broncos with a tough slate of games beginning on Sunday against the Baltimore Ravens, then Kansas City Chiefs, Atlanta Falcons, and Las Vegas Raiders. If he can continue to play with the confidence he’s shown lately, perhaps he’ll also make a case for November.
