The 21-day practice window has officially opened for returning defensive lineman Tyquan Lewis to rejoin his Colts teammates.
On Wednesday, the Indianapolis Colts announced that defensive lineman Tyquan Lewis has been designated to return off of injured reserve, which opens a 21-day practice window for him to be activated for game days:
While he’ll formally remain on injured reserve, this designation provides Lewis a three-week window in which he can practice with his teammates. If he’s not activated off injured reserve during or at the end of this 21-day window (*and he can be activated anytime off of it), then he will remain on injured reserve for the remainder of the 2024 season.
The former 2018 2nd round pick of the Colts had 17 tackles (10 solo), 1.5 sacks, 2 tackles for loss, and 3 QB hits during 4 starts before his recent elbow injury.
While he was re-signed to a 2-year, $12 million contract this past offseason to serve as a versatile rotational defensive lineman—with the ability to play inside and out, Lewis was thrusted into an initial starter’s role at defensive end with the Achilles tear to returning veteran starter Samson Ebukam.
Lewis’s return should provide a boost to the Colts defensive line depth, particularly on the outside with his ability to help set the edge against the opposing running game—while also offering some pass rush push.
Lewis should help down the stretch along the Indy defensive line, especially with the Colts trying to make a late season AFC playoff push.
