Caleb Murphy set an NCAA record with 25.5 sacks as a senior at Ferris State.
On Tuesday, the Chargers announced the signing of former Titans UDFA pass rusher Caleb Murphy who was waived by Tennessee on October 26th. Murphy was signed by the Titans following the 2023 NFL Draft and played his football at Division II Ferris State.
Murphy was a two-time Division II National Champion who set the NCAA single-season record with 25.5 sacks and tied the standing record of 39 tackles for loss during the 2022 season. He was awarded the Ted Hendricks Award, becoming the first non-FBS player to earn the honor of the nationβs top defensive end.
Following his final year at Ferris State, Murphy was also awarded the Gene Upshaw Award (best lineman in Division II), the Cliff Harris Award (best small college defensive player), and was named the GLIAC Player of the Year.
At the NFL Combine, Murphy measured in at 6β3 1β4 and 254 pounds. He ran a 4.81 in the forty-yard dash with a vertical jump of 31 inches and broad jump of 9 feet, 11 inches.
