Week 1 of the 2024 regular season is finally here, and it’s time again for the Canal Street Chronicles staff to give their predictions on how the New Orleans Saints will do this season.
Saints record prediction: 10-7
The Saints finished 9-8 last season with a lot of momentum, just missing the playoffs. They will go into this season with another favorable schedule and a new offensive coordinator plus the NFC South is still one of the weakest divisions in the league. I think if they can start this season strong, they will reclaim the division (the first time since 2020) and go marching into the playoffs. The only thing that can stop them is injuries. The last few years have not been so kind, especially at quarterback. Let's hope the injury bug doesn’t bite again.
Saints record prediction: 8-9
The Saints squeezed out nine wins in 2023 with unimpressive victories against uncontending teams with backups running their offenses. It is hard for me to say this team, entering 2024 with a more questionable offensive line than in 2023, will win more games than they did the season prior. New Orleans will start the season with a tough stretch before their “easiest schedule in the league” begins to lighten up. With Derek Carr starting another season with a new offensive coordinator and facing tougher quarterbacks, I see the Saints ending the year with a losing record.
Saints record prediction: 8-9
The Saints managed to win nine games in 2023, but it didn’t really feel like they were a team capable of a winning record. They had a top 3 easiest schedule in the league (which they have again this year), but still couldn’t make the playoffs. I like some of the additions they made, but I don’t think it’s enough to move the needle. They have a very real shot at starting 1-5, so I’m tentatively saying 8-9 with +1 on either side.

It’s challenging for me to confidently say that the Saints have drastically improved as a football team compared to the 2023 season. Earlier in the offseason, I predicted the Saints to be an 11-win team in 2024. However, the offensive line in particular has made it difficult for me to stick with that prediction. I don’t think New Orleans has taken a step back this offseason, though I also don’t think they took a large step forward. The schedule to start the regular season has a few tough opponents, but if New Orleans can manage to do well in that early stretch, that could change my opinion on the rest of the season.
