Panthers announce that 2023 No. 1 overall pick will stay in the lineup
Before Tuesday’s NFL trade deadline, there were some New York Giants fans who hoped the team would try to pry quarterback Bryce Young away from the Carolina Panthers.
Now, the Giants are going to have to play against the 2023 No. 1 overall pick.
Panthers coach Dave Canales announced Wednesday afternoon that Young will be Carolina’s starting quarterback against the Giants on Sunday in Munich, Germany.
After a rocky rookie season and a poor start to this year, Young was benched in favor of veteran quarterback Andy Dalton.
Young has started the last two games for Carolina after Dalton sustained a thumb injury in a car crash.
Dalton is healthy enough to play, but Canales has chosen to stick with the 23-year-old Young.
In Carolina’s 23-22 victory over the New Orleans Saints on Sunday, Young completed 16 of 26 passes for 171 yards with a touchdown and an interception.
The Giants and Panthers are two of nine two-win teams entering Week 10.
