A much-needed victory for the Browns that included a few standout performances.
The Cleveland Browns won their first game in six weeks against the Baltimore Ravens in Week 8. It was their best game of the season, and the Browns looked like the team we all thought we were getting at the start of the year.
Suddenly, the issues that had plagued them all year seemingly disappeared as they moved the ball up and down the field. Jameis Winston who took over for the injured Deshaun Watson led to an offensive outburst from Cleveland.
Winston threw for over 300 yards and three touchdown passes. Offensive coordinator Ken Dorsey passed the test in his first game as the play-caller on offense.
Perhaps the most pleasant surprise was the career day from second-year wide receiver Cedric Tillman. He led the team with seven catches for 99 yards and two touchdown receptions.
Since the trade of Amari Cooper, Tillman has caught 15 passes for 180 yards, and the two touchdowns. He has looked the part of a number one receiver, and certainly a building block moving forward.
Nick Chubb also had a good game and had some great runs to keep the chains moving. He looks better than anyone could have predicted in his second game back.
The defense also held up their end of the bargain as they were able to contain the Ravens offense for the most part. Mohamoud Diabate and Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah both had outstanding performances in the middle for the Browns.
JOK did cause us all a scare as he was carted off at the end of the third quarter with a possible neck injury. We are all hoping that it was precautionary and that he will be okay moving forward.
Now, let’s give out some grades to the units.
Offense: A
It wasn’t perfect, but it was the biggest in-season improvement I’ve ever witnessed. Winston fed the receiving group in its entirety.
Defense: B+
They got the job done against one of the league’s best offenses.
Special Teams: A
No real complaints and three field goals from Dustin Hopkins helped seal the victory.
