Perhaps defensive end will face the team that cut him

Perhaps the Las Vegas Raiders will see a familiar face Sunday when they host the Cleveland Browns at Allegiant Stadium. Kickoff is 1:25 p.m. PT.

The Browns announced Wednesday they signed defensive end Elerson Smith to their practice squad in a flurry of roster moves.

Smith, 26, was on the Raiders’ practice squad some last season and he was there this training camp. Smith was a standout in the preseason and some people thought he’d make the Silver and Black’s initial 53-man roster.

He didn’t and the Raiders opted not to bring him onto the practice squad despite staring defensive end Malcolm Koonce being lost for the season with a knee injury.

Cleveland superstar defensive end Myles Garrett has been dealing with multiple injuries and he did not practice Wednesday as the Browns began preparations for Sunday’s game in Las Vegas. Garrett is reportedly expected to play through the injury Sunday.

Now, the Browns have an insurance policy in Smith in case he can’t or needs help Sunday. Smith has played 13 NFL games, spanning the 2021-22 seasons, all with the New York Giants.
