Conklin has performed extremely well in his 5 starts this season

The Cleveland Browns have continuously dealt with injuries along the offensive line for the past two to three seasons, with Jack Conklin being at the forefront since joining the team in 2020.

Though he’s understandably lost a lot of fans since his first season in Cleveland due to his inability to stay healthy, he finally appears to be back to normal. He’s strung together five consecutive starts since October 13th and has been incredibly good in each of those games.

Not just “good” either, he’s been performing like one of the better right tackles in the league since he’s been back. He currently has a PFF grade of 69.4, which is well above average for the position.

Conklin signed a four-year, $60 million contract extension right before Christmas of 2022 with $31 million of the deal guaranteed. At the time, it seemed a bit odd because he only played in 21 of 32 possible games over the previous two seasons due to the aforementioned injuries. He also missed the entire 2023 season, which didn’t help the front office when it came to public perception of the deal.

With the financial strain that Deshaun Watson’s contract is putting on the entire organization, it would be hard to see Conklin being kept on the roster with a cap number of $19,467,000 for the 2025 season.

Above is an example of what the Browns can do to restructure his current deal that would incrementally save the team money for the next few seasons, via Overthecap.com.

If and that’s a big “if”, he can stay healthy and continue to perform at a high level for the rest of the 2024 season then the team will most likely work with him to restructure his current deal following the season.
