Browns roster: 6 tradeable players who could fetch the best trade return

Amari Cooper’s name is already twisting in the NFL rumor winds

The Cleveland Browns have a must-win game on Sunday, Week 5, against the Washington Commanders. Sitting at 1-3, the Browns playoff chances are slim but not zero. A loss this week almost certainly ends those chances and puts all the focus on the future in Cleveland.

A future with a lot of uncertainty.

Even if the Browns win, the roster might look different when the NFL trade deadline hits in a month. While rumors are generally sparse this early, besides Davante Adams hinting at joining the AFC North, Amari Cooper’s name is swirling in media discussions.

Earlier in the week, we shared 11 untradeable players from Cleveland’s roster. Whether because they are too good, too young, too inconsistent, too injured or a combination, those 11 are highly unlikely to be traded before the early November deadline.

These six, however, could be traded with potentially the best return for the Browns, even if that return is Day 2 or Day 3 draft picks:

  • Amari Cooper - The structure of his reworked deal this offseason makes him very cheap for a team acquiring him which could lead to a third-round pick plus a young player if he is traded.
  • Dalvin Tomlinson - Defensive line help is always valued. While Tomlinson hasn’t been a huge stat collector, he never was prior to signing, he is a solid veteran with reasonable cap hits for his acquiring team.
  • Shelby Harris - Sticking with defensive tackle, Harris signed a two-year, small deal this offseason with the Browns. Another solid veteran, his contract might make him more attractive to teams than Tomlinson
  • Ogbo Okoronkwo - Another lineman, Okoronkwo had 4.5 sacks last year and has had over 30 pressures each of the last two seasons despite averaging less than 500 snaps. A team looking for a fast rusher, especially those running a 3-4 defense, could see OO as a good fit for this season and next.
  • Wyatt Teller - The last two players are interesting as they are both on the injured list but have a chance to return before the trade deadline. Teller has been one of the best guards in the league but it is obvious the Browns need to make changes on their offensive line. Over 30 years old, Teller has dealt with lower leg issues the last couple of seasons and has big cap hits for Cleveland. A trade could lessen those while getting the Browns a Day 2 pick or something similar in return.
  • Juan Thornhill - Also eligible to return soon, Thornhill was a very good safety for the Kansas City Chiefs but injuries have limited his performance for Cleveland. A team with an injury at free safety or who believes that is their weak link could be drawn to Thornhill’s experience and energy as well as his relatively inexpensive contract.
